Plano-convex lenses are used to correct out-of-light rays or to focus parallel rays. We used them as secondary focusing lenses to refocus parallel sources. Plano-convex lenses have very low spherical aberration, the plane of the plano-convex lens is toward the source of the spot or the focus, and the surface is opposite to the parallel light
As the most economical transmission focusing component available today, plano-convex lenses are suitable for laser heat treatment, welding, cutting and infrared radiation acquisition. In these applications, spot size or image quality is not the most important factor. In diffraction-limited high-aperture optical systems, the shape of the lens has no substantial effect on system performance, and plano-convex lenses are an economical choice.
